The following Letter to the Editor, written by George Heidcamp, was in response to the letter from "Aunt Bea," and appeared in The Saugerties Post Star and The Saugerties Times, 03-06-08

Will the Real Aunt Bea Please Stand Up

[heading from Saugerties Times]

The mysterious "Aunt Bea," is to be commended for traveling more than 700 miles from Vandalia, Ohio, to visit Saugerties and then take time out of her "vacation" to attend one of our school board meetings.

Aunt Bea claims her "sis" told her that "this board is not the same since the three new members came on board." I couldn't agree with "Sis" more, this "new" board just isn't the same as the previous one, for which we should all be eternally grateful. Unlike the old board, this "new" board doesn't automatically rubber stamp the administration, unlike the "old" board, the "new" board isn't afraid to say "no" to the administration, and extremely unlike the "old" board, this "new" board makes decisions based on facts and the community's best interest, rather than favoritism and nepotism. In short, I believe (and many people agree) this "new" board has been a change in a positive direction.

Next time "Aunt Bea" decides to spend her vacation in Saugerties and attend another school board meeting, I hope she will introduce herself to the board so we can take the opportunity to explain to her the positive changes this "new" board has made thus far.

And, finally, isn't it odd that the Saugerties Times' policy requires that Letters to the Editor contain a verifiable name but printed this one as "Aunt Bea?"
