Dear Editor,

Wesley Maxwell is a lucky man. He is in the enviable position of not needing to worry about how high his taxes are or the reason why they are so high.

He seems to think George Heidcamp is impugning Superintendent Rhau single-handedly. Not so! My husband, William J. Brown, attended the Meet-The-Candidates-For-Superintendent meeting. He listened to each candidate speak. He remembers that Mr. Rhau mentioned the school board at least nine times. He mentioned the students once. He offered nothing other than politicizing and buttering up the school board.

When the slips were handed out to the attendees to write their opinions, William wrote, "Do not hire Mr. Rhau. He is a politician." This was long before George Heidcamp.

Okay, so, yes, you can call us one of "Mr. H's" followers! But only because he has given up hours and hours of his time just to keep the public informed and we are very appreciative. If not for "Mr. H.," we would never have known how accurate my husbands words were.

Just to add one more observation: Mr. Maxwell listed the different superintendents we've has since 1991. Hopefully, he's not blaming that on George Heidcamp. The blame should be placed on the people of Saugerties since we vote for the school board members. They are the ones who have done the poor hiring jobs. It is a tough job and the ones who serve should be commended. However, those who do decide to serve should remember they are representing the people of Saugerties.

Sincerely,

Denise R. Brown
