from Letter to Editor (Kingston
Freeman)
"Dear Editor:
This is in reply to the letter of Buono and
Kovac (ATTACK DOG HAS NO BITE).
First: Mr. Heidcamp should be commended for
exercising his First Amendment right to free
speech. He should also be commended for his
diligence in seeking accountability in elected
officials who oversee the use of his tax money.
Second: Just because Mr. Heidcamp questions the
way money is spent in the Saugerties School
District or disagrees with certain policies does
not make him a person who does not care about
education.
Third: This tactic of insisting that anyone who
disagrees with the Board or the Superintendent is a
person who does not have the education of the
students at heart is reprehensible.
Fourth: This is the same Superintendent and
Board who ignored a Federal injunction because "it
was a bad decision". That certainly educates
students.
Fifth: This is the same Superintendent and Board
who told a respected member of the community that
she could not voice her opinion on the way the
district was being run. As I recall, Mr. Brennan
told her to sit down and be quiet.
Finally: Mr. Rhau was superintendent of Salem
City, NJ School District for fifteen years before
he was hired by Saugerties. In his fifteen years,
the student body always scored below average on
state tests. So much for improving education.
Improve the garbage cans out of the Senior High,
limit the number of administrators (at last count,
there were fourteen in this small district), don't
allow the Assistant Superintendent to charge
mileage every time she visits schools and stop
bullying those who criticize you.
. . . . . . . ." Linda M. Price, Retired English
Teacher (Thirty eight years (nine in
Saugerties))
