BOE Appoints Department Chairs - Denies 2

On May 20th voters will be asked to vote on a $52,135,740 School Budget
In addition, voters will be selecting three new school board members

The candidates are:

  • Tom Ham
  • Walter Frey
  • Chuck Schirmer
  • Steve Haun
  • William Creen, Jr., and
  • Lanny Walter
Saugerties Watchdog

gives Lanny Walter

a "thumbs down,"

and strongly recommends that voters DO NOT support him

While serving on the school board in 2001-2002, Lanny Walter, along with his former board cronies, was responsible for giving former Superintendents Karen Hong and Michael Singleton, and Singleton's wife (all of whom are non-residents), paid health insurance for the rest of their natural lives.

Also, between March 13, 2001 and June 29, 2002, taxpayers paid in excess of $200,000 in salaries plus tens of thousands of dollars in benefits for two superintendents at the same time!

Saugerties taxpayers have paid $72, 457.49 to date for their health insurance. Each year, you can add another $19,405.00 (at today's rates).

In eight short years Saugerties taxpayers will have paid these non-residents a total of $210,232.49 in health insurance adding another $19,405.00 each year thereafter.

Saugerties taxpayers can not afford to have this man on the school board again, Lanny Walter does not know how to say "no" to spending money.

On May 20th voters will have the opportunity to judge the past and make the future better

Polls open from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m.

The Public Responds re: The Heidcamp Report

Readers will recall that a few weeks back, Saugerties Post Star Publisher, Ryan Hallum, polled the public regarding The Heidcamp Report as a Page 3 weekly feature. He asked that anyone with an opinion regarding The Report respond by the end of February. Apparently many comments were received, prompting Mr. Hallum to write the following:

***

I would first like to thank the many people who wrote and called in to express their feelings about the Post Star printing the Heidcamp Report. I was happy to see the amount of response, as well as the emotion that was poured into many of the emails. This poll was done for me to find out if the majority of our readers enjoyed reading what George had to say. After reading all of the responses that came in, it is my decision to continue to print the Heidcamp Report. The results were overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the Heidcamp Report in the Post Star. As has been our policy in the past, we welcome anyone who disputes or disagrees with George to write in to us to have an equal forum to get their information out. His column is his own views and opinions, and the Post Star would be happy to accommodate both sides of the issue, so that the people of Saugerties can decide for themselves. Thank you again for the great amount of responses, and also for your continued readership of the Post Star.

Ryan Hallum, Publisher, Post Star
