Why Are Taxpayers Still Paying Those
Ex-Superintendents ?

This is the "resignation" letter submitted in May 2002 by then Superintendent Karen Hong.

She had been given a contract extension by a majority of board members 2 months earlier.

Her "resignation" letter entitled her to lifetime health benefits.

1. Feb 21, 1995. Motion/Flo Hyatt 2nd/ Richard Greco to appoint Karen Hong and approve her contract. Voting yes were: Joe Benjamin, Richard Greco, Gary Young, Chuck Shirmer, Robert Sinnot, Bruce Tucker. Voting no were: Terry Bach

2. March 13, 2002. Motion/Flo Hyatt 2nd/ Lanny Walter to appoint Michael Singleton and approve his contract. Voting yes were: Bob McCaig, Terry Bach, Flo Hyatt, Lanny Walter, Brad John son. Voting no were: Pat Sommers. Michael Breenan, Tom Macarlle, Bob Lippman

Note: Hyatt and Walter made motion to hire singleton while we already had a superintendent. We were paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for two superintendents at the same time, since the board had accepted the resignation of Karen Hong (rumor has it that the board fired her.)

Superintendent Singleton only served 2 years of his 4 year contract and then resigned (2003). Since he technically retired from NYS - his contract with the Saugerties School Board then allowed him and his wife to collect lifetime health benefits. This statement indicates what Saugerties taxpayers continue to pay these ex-superintendents.
